Our name is Kootenay Bakery Cafe Cooperative

  WELCOME To The Bakery!

  The Kootenay Bakery Café (KBCC) is a worker’s cooperative.  This means that the people who are co-op members work in the bakery as well as own shares in the business.

     The co-op has been in operation since April 2001 when KBCC moved into its present location with the formation of the workers cooperative and the purchase of The Kootenay Baker business (1991–2001).  We have been growing ever since.

     As the bakery has grown we identified a need to  sell our products outside of the Kootenays so we formed a natural foods distribution company called Kootenay Made Natural Products (KMNP) in 2004. This arm of the bakery has enabled KBCC, along with several other local producers, to deliver our products beyond of the Kootenays.

     KBCC has grown each year, adding more staff, increasing both retail and wholesale activity, and supporting many local community and some global initiatives.  We are a very busy business!
